Senior Project Manager – Site Civil Construction

ABES Contracting is growing and we are looking for a Senior Project Manager who understands site civil, utility, and infrastructure construction and is ready to lead from both the office and the field.

What You’ll Do
This role is hands-on and multi-dimensional. You will:
- Lead and support cost estimating and bid preparation
- Perform quantity takeoffs for civil / utility scopes
- Prepare and manage RFIs, submittals, change orders
- Develop and update project schedules (Microsoft Project or similar)
- Coordinate subcontractors and suppliers
- Attend client meetings and represent ABES professionally
- Support field operations and occasionally be on-site
- Help manage crews and ensure projects stay on track
- Improve systems and organization without overcomplicating them
This is not a “sit behind a desk and manage hierarchy” role.
We need someone willing to do what the job requires whether that’s building a schedule, reviewing drawings, meeting a crane operator, or helping close out a project.
Required Experience
- Minimum 10 years of construction experience
- Direct experience in:
- Site civil work
- Water / wastewater utilities
- Infrastructure or heavy civil construction
- Strong understanding of:
- Plans and specifications
- Quantity takeoffs
- Estimating fundamentals
- Construction administration processes
Technical Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Experience with Microsoft Project or Primavera (P6) is a plus
- Comfortable with construction documentation systems
- Ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical stakeholders
Compensation
Salary is competitive and based on experience.

Construction Manager
Location: Memphis, TN (with local travel as needed)

We self-perform, water, sewer and grading and drainage and hire out other scopes to sub-contractors. Position Summary
We are seeking a seasoned Construction Manager with at least 15 years of experience (20 years preferred) to lead and manage construction projects both in the office and in the field. This role requires a proactive, detail-oriented leader who understands the full life cycle of construction—from project planning and resource management to field execution and administrative follow-through.
The Construction Manager will play a vital role in coordinating teams, subcontractors, equipment, scheduling, budget control, and reporting. They must be equally comfortable in the field managing crews and logistics, as well as in the office overseeing documentation, subcontractor billing, and project administration.
Key Responsibilities
In the Field
- Lead daily site operations for multiple construction projects, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, schedule, and budget standards.
- Oversee field crews, subcontractors, and equipment usage.
- Conduct regular site inspections and coordination meetings.
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and rental of equipment.
- Identify and resolve field issues proactively to avoid delays or cost overruns.
- Coordinate inspections, permits, and regulatory compliance with project specifications.
In the Office
- Assist with compiling and placing bids
- Participate in preconstruction planning, estimating, and evaluation of sub pricing.
- Manage construction project documentation and administrative requirements.
- Create and manage detailed project schedules and execution plans.
- Review and approve subcontractor invoices, payment applications, and time tracking.
- Assist with project budgeting and cost tracking in coordination with accounting.
- Generate progress reports, RFIs, change orders, and other contract documents.
- Work with internal teams to align construction execution with engineering plans.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive construction management experience in water, sewer, grading and drainage projects as well as other public infrastructure projects.
- Proven track record managing both field and office aspects of construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction scheduling, budgeting, and cost control.
- Experience reviewing plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Familiarity with construction software and tools (e.g., Procore, MS Project, Bluebeam, Excel).
- Excellent communication and leadership skills; ability to lead teams and coordinate subcontractors.
- Ability to perform basic tasks (such as load and unloading a truck) using heavy equipment.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 30 certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Knowledge of construction equipment and rental procedures.
- The ability to dig trenches or perform site grading utilizing heavy equipment is a plus.
- Prior experience with minority-owned or small business contractors a plus.
